You won't have to worry about additional hand luggage fees anymore. Travelling in europe has always had it's fair share of hidden costs but one of the most frustrating has been the additional baggage fees imposed by airline particularly on low-cost carriers.

However, the European Parliament has voted to ban additional hand carry baggage fees for flights within the European Union. Starting from 2025, all passengers will be allowed to bring both a personal item such as a backpack or hand bag and a cabin bag will be allowed up to 7 kg.

This plans to bring more transparency and honesty within the air travel space. With the hopes that the price you see when booking, will be the final price you pay.

This isn't the only change on it's way! Children under 12 years old no longer need to pay for seation allocation. This is because it's now mandatory for them to be seated next to a parent or guardian.

Carers for passengers with reduced mobility will be abe to travel for free to ensure there is better support in place for passenger who require assitance during their travels.

The rules for refunds and delays have also had an update. Airlines must process refunds within 7 days and intermediaries must process within 14 days. A new EU wide form has been created to simplify the claim process for delays and cancellations.

Although these decisions are a positive for travelers, they may come with drawbacks...

Low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizzair won't be happy. That's because they have create a revenue stream from these additional charges. In 2024, Ryanair earned over 4.7 billion from these additiona charges alone.

That's a huge loss in revenue for airlines so many people are guessing that** airlines will pass on this loss to customers by simplying raising the prices of flight tickets.**

Is this a win for travelers? Would you prefer to pay for the additional items or have it all included in the cost of your plane ticket?
